Trailer (BE) Lessons
In recent years the law has greatly being enforced with trailer towing, In fact the Gardai are now actively pursuing vehicles towing trailers on the road and checking that the driver is in possession of the correct licence
If you plan on towing a large trailer or horsebox you are required by both your insurer and the garda to hold a full (BE) licence and could be prosecuted if you fail to hold your trailer licence.

Can I tow a trailer or caravan on my full ‘B’ (Car) driving licence?
Yes, we can all tow a trailer with a standard full car licence but you are restricted to your vehicle and trailer combination total weight (car, trailer, load and persons) of the combined unit must not exceed 3,500kg and your trailers Maximum Authorised Mass (MAM) does not exceed 750kg,
What weight can I tow with my full trailer licence?
With a Category ‘BE’ (Car & Trailer) driving licence you can tow a trailer.
In all cases where the (MAM) Maximum Authorised Mass of the vehicle and trailer combination is greater than 3500kg but less than 7000kg.
In cases where the (MAM) Maximum Authorised Mass of the trailer is greater than 750kg.
However, note previous statement where in certain cases a category B licence will allow you to tow a trailer over 750kg.
